A site i didn't see mentioned is:

[link]http://www.digital-daily.com/video/stalker_test/[/link]

I point out this site for 1 reason, they hit the nail on the head in the last section:

"The dependence of results on the CPU"

EDIT:

More thorough reading here:

Good find!
I noticed a huge improvement in FPS after 350mhz cpu overclock from 2.4 to 2.75. Thought it was the new 1.0004 patch. Overclocking gpu saw no noticeable improvement. Had no stutters before but still have the pause in front of Garbage and Army Warehouses.

I think there are too many vriables to make a really good judgement, which is why we need playable demo's for every PC game that gets released.

For example, I only have a 1.8ghz, 1gb ram, fx 6200 system, the 6200 isn't even listed on tests for Stalker, they generally start at the 7800!

And yet, while I can only play with static lighting at 1024x768, I have all the view, detail, etc sliders set to max, have graphics set to maximum, I have vsync on and Anisotropic set to 4x and I have a smooth as silk frame-rate of over 30 most of the time. This is more than adequate and I am very happy with the graphics. But my rig is way below the lowest on the above list and yet I am beating much higher cards and I have more options switched on!

EDIT: I am using 1.004 and that helped framerates a lot. SO I wonder if these tests are also with 1.003 or earlier?

The tests you are beating are all under full dynamic lightning mode, which requires S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to do complex lightning calculations that do not occur in static lightning mode. In the end you can't really say the two are in the same level, even if you have every available option set to the max. Full dynamic lightning generates a lot more hardware strain and, by consensus, is more visually pleasing.

Here is a very thorough test. The text is in Russian, but the numbers are international, so it should not be a problem.

http://www.ixbt.com/video3/video-cpu-combinations.shtml

In conclusion it calls 8600 GT the minimum for playing the game comfortably.

English version . The article is about the CPU/combination , very complete for STALKER

http://www.digit-life.com/articles3/video/video-cpu-combinations.html

http://www.ixbt.com/video3/images/video-cpu-combinations/table1.png

The resolution is 1280 x 1024 , with more resolution the CPU is less important - is usually the limit is the videocard, at 1600 x 1050 or 1600 x 1200 and more .

And with the "olders" videocards, - ATI 1xxx and Nvidia 7xxx . Maybe already is in the thread , sorry

Performance boost with new 8.5-ATI-Driver for 38x0-vidcards

Yes, this is an old thread, but this news from 22 may 2008 might be interesting:

The new ATI Catalyst-Driver 8.5 claims up to 50 (!) better performance with DX9-Stalker and HDR enabled for the 38x0-series.

Quote from the Release Notes

---QUOTATION---
• Stalker DX9: Performance increases by 20-50% when HDR is enabled in the game; across all ATI Radeon™ HD38x0 series of products
---END QUOTATION---
