I plan on getting a nVidia 6600 GT in the near future... Would that be enough to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on 60 fps with the resolution of 1024 x 768?
---END QUOTATION---

well i got a 6800 GT, and a 3,6 intel processor and 1024 mb ram.
i dont think i will have any problem running stalker at the highest detail
in high resolution like 1280x1024 and still have a good fps. dont you think?

nice choice on the 6800 GT, 3.6 will load the game fast, but in game AMD64 would out perform it easily. just depends on what your dooing. with your 1gig ram you should run with high textures, but for the speed of it to be decent make sure u at least have PC3400, im PC3500 (thats 433hrtz) other than that, no problems at all. now we just have to wait for it to come out. MAN I CANT WAIT!!! ZOMG! but hey GSC TAKE YOUR TIME, MAKE A GREAT GAME, MAKE US WAIT ANOTHER YEAR IF YOU HAVE TO. sry, just had to get that out.

I will definately be going nvidia with this game , and all other games for that matter , because i plan on playing stalker in 3D stereo (No , this has nothing to do with sound , its like 3D as in real life what you can see with 2 eyes as opposed to one eye like on your flat monitor) Because it will add so much to the stalker experience , like having depth within the monitor , and things jumping out of the monitor and add to the immersion factor . As it stands at the moment , only nvidia's drivers support 3D stereo vision for games , and therefor i have no choice but to go with them , because of the amazing effect 3D stereo produces for games , especially FPS's .

Once you go 3D , you cant go back ...

If you consider STALKER while upgrading, keep the current exact release date in mind - "When It's Done." Othwerwise, just wait for the performance tests.

i know i have to upgrade... because i just realized that i have been screwed! I bought my computer in the knowledge that it was 2 ghz... but now when i was looking at the specs i saw that my comp is 1.3ghz! Im taking the computer back to the store next week and im gonna request full refund, in a form of a new comp... and they installed a radeon 9550 instead of 9200! you would think that the 9550 is better than 9200, but it is a cheap model which doesnt function properly. As an example, total lockup when running better 3d than quake 1 well that was overreacted, but seriously its buggy.

those of you who hate nvidia, ati motherboard by saphire
[link]http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2481[/link]

to summarize the review, it overclocks well (it actually got the best cpu overclock of any board.... ever), has more tweaking options in the bios than any nvidia board (matching or surpassing DFI nforce 4 on voltages, that surprised me..), includes high definition onboard audio (for those of you who hate the noise most onboards give), and has good performance on all southbridge options (IDE, SATA, LAN, etc) except it shows some not too great performance on USB which most people wont notice.

Well ATI and Nvidia both supports DX9 and OpenGL. It is not about the hardware folks. Its about the software.

The fight will go on ATI is good, Nvidia is good its a personal pref. As far as supporting current and up coming games, if it supports DX9 it will run your game. Now depending on how much $ you want to spend on a Video Card anything with DX8 support will run this, but a DX9 card will run it even better (shadows, video performance, high resolutions).

I got 9800 PRO (btw had a Nvidia 5900 Card, traded it in on the ATI) and I wont upgrade for atleast the next 18 months. Also running a game at Med to High specs is good enought for Multi play, Very High for Single play. The more stuff that goes on on-screen the more possibilities for lag. Also remember that all those Tech talk on the Video Card's box about how many trillion colors and stuff, you have to remember most of those settings are not even noticable by the human eye.

So to come to a conclusion. 800X and 6800 Cards will run this game the same, or if you cant afford a Ferrari go for a 5900 GForce or ATI 9800 PRO card, both excellent cards and will run this game just as smooth

Nvidia only sponsers those developers Both ATI amd Nvid uses DirectX (Microsoft), so there is no way in forcing it to use a certain card "make"
---END QUOTATION---

I'm getting a 6600GT OC for 171.99 CDN today. It will run fine. And by the time Stalker comes out, I will have an A64 based, GDDR 3 ram supporting motherboard.

By the time Stalker comes out, we will all be beings of pure energy and will be able to interface with each other's thoughts an imaginations completely and immediately. There will be no use for external games.
