Bar CTDs...

I am experiencing repeated CTDs at the Bar. I have saved twice at the Arena (one regular save, one quicksave). But if I am killed while fighting and try to reload my quicksave, I geta CTD. Same thing if I try to reload my manual save. The only thing I am able to do is load the autosave from entering the Bar area. It's always the same reason:

XR_3DA.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\THQ\ S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\bin\xrGame.dll"

This is what I hate about Stalker. Every time I try to finally finish it, some error crops up and puts me off the chase. Dammit!

NLC - I had seen on FF you made mention of a error that read "out of memory" - by any chance, did that happen trying to load or save a game in the Army Warehouses map?

Just curious, as I'm starting to think stack overflow and out of memory errors might possibly be related to my Ambient Audio Overhaul mod - and these are two errors I've commonly seen through my own testing, in very specific game maps - it's not an all-the-time issue, but does crop up now and then . . . I'd just like to get to the bottom of it and determine if it's defi related to my mod, or just a quirk with SoC.

I'm still not 100% sure if SoC tries to load up all ambient audio sounds and effects at map load-out, or if it calls them as needed . . . if the first is true, that would mean that the final .ogg size is too large, or the number of sounds I'm calling, needs to be trimmed down some for the majority of systems to be able to handle the load-out.

Well that should work, I have checked Rebalanced's system.ltx, and what I posted (and you did) should work. I only have one other thought, I read somewhere that antialiasing in Stalker (or rather the fake version used by the engine) can make the horizontal and vertical lines of the cross dissapear.

Try disabling any antialiasing in the Video menu.

Edit: It's not your patch.. Rebalanced is built for 1.0005 so your good.

Hi again,

Made sure antialiasing was set to far left (it was anyway, as it turned out) and played around with 60Mhz and Vertical options on both saved game and new games, setting both to on, both to off, and on/off combos. Still ended up with the dot.
Just gonna have to get used to it, I guess, unless there's anything else to try? If resetting to vanilla values should have done it, though, there's probably not.

Hey guys, I'm home for a couple of days at the mo, will look into some of these issues.

1st tho, Snorkbait, delete the file gamedata\\textures\\ui\\cursor.dds

I now believe that the save / load errors are related to the Areana Extension Mod, if there is no fix for this I will have to look at releasing a another version that will sadly omit this awesome enhancement.

look at bobbq's posts here, and you will see that he is having the issues as us, and he is using AEM with another mod:

I need to know some things first:
1. Is there anyone who is having save / load crashes without doing any of the arena fights?

2. Is the 'hunt the bloodsucker' mission working for anyone at all?

3. Yes, I know the sci medkit is there, I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. You now get the stash info from fox after you help him, which is a cool little vanilla bug fix that fatrap pointed out. So I put the sci medkit in there so you would be like: do I want to fix this rad now, or go back for the sweet pistol?

4. has anyone tried Reb with the new Photo Realistic Mod, man that looks awesome, if you have, please post a couple of screens and your thoughts.

Not done Arena stuff or Bloodsucker mission, so I can't help with other stuff. I'll start a new game and do the Bloodsucker mission to check - if you get that off the guy under the bridge (DJ or whatever his name is), I'm afraid I shot him to get his rifle to do the first mission.

[WIP] Hotfix 1.05.2

So far I have fixed:

fix wpn_killer_rifle crash related to the SR25.
- added wpn to mp_ranks.ltx
- Thanks to NLC

fix freedom_kill_stalker_8 quest
- added quest to storyline_info_taskmanager.xml and fixed a typo in stable_task_manager.xml
- thanks to guren2147

fix desert eagle big ben being over powered
- typo in unique_item.ltx, hit power was set to 77 not 0.77! have now matched it to the val / vintorez
- thanks to guren2147

tided up some stash rewards
- thanks to guren2147

fixed exploit with Cap at the freedom barrier
- thanks to guren2147

Included an installer, written by NLC, much thanks.

{imperialreign} I don't think that is the reason, but Darius6ix would know everything there is to know about that, you try asking him. By the way, I love what you've done with your mod, it is exactly as you described in your readme. It continues the feel of the sound overhaul and fits in and enhances rebs atmosphere, cheers.
edit: 1 thing tho, I find the electro idle sound to be a bit to quiet.

Still waiting on more reporting of the above posted issues. I will be away agin for a week later on this week.

thanks for the feedback man, one thing I haven't had enough of in regards to either my SoC or CS mod.

I agree with you on the elctro idle sound, I'm thinking I'm going to have to re-do it entirelly; it's funny, though, the electro idle sound in my CS pack is exaclty the same, but it's too loud in CS . . . then again, CS' audio engine actually seems to make use of the environmental effects.


I was just curious, though, if my mod was causing memory-related errors, as I started noticing stuff in those same locations when I was working on the OL comp pack . . . and my mod for CS throws up a noticeable FPS hit; although CS handles ambient audio much differently.


Anyhow, I've got more updates in the works, once I get back around to them - changes to the environment audio/reverb tables, finish up the rest of the anomaly sounds, a few more ambient sounds, etc. I do intend to trim the mod size down some, and split it as well - I'd like to also get around to a priboi comp pack, and tweak some more of OL sounds, too. Just been busy with work, school, and playtesting another high-profile mod for another modder that's looking to be out in the next few weeks.

Once classes wrap up in the next couple of weeks I'll have more time.

{imperialreign} sounds good man. I like the electro idle sound as it fits in well with the electro idle animation that eggchen made especially for me (cheers again Egg, love it).

I don't know anything about CS tho, havn't even played it, and the way SHOC has consumed my life, I might just hold off on it for a while 'cos when I see the videos for it, I just keep seeing things that i would want to change.
