Max Chill~

John Carpenter is one of my favorite all time Directors and he has made
several of my all time favorite movies despite most of those being dated
going back to the 1980s. I guess like anything in life, be it music, books,
movies or TV, an artist can be on a roll and then never be able to sustain
or achieve their peak of greatness or popularity forever. What one thing
that makes John Carpenter so unique and special, as you already know,
is that many times he would actually write the music to his own movies.
That is rare and is especially outstanding when you realize it is just not
background music but an integral part to the feeling, mood or immersion
to the experience. You realize without the one-of-a-kind and brilliantly
composed music, that it's loss can entirely change or fail to achieve what
it did with it. Two great examples are both soundtracks that I personally
own. One is horror and the other is Science Fiction. John Carpenter greats.

John Carpenter ❖ Prince Of Darkness - Opening Titles: ( 1987 )

John Carpenter ❖ They Live - Welcome To LA ( 1988 )

Carpenter certainly had one of the greatest runs of any director between the mid-70s and late 80s. Too bad his later output wasn't nearly as good, though there were a few decent ones through the 90s (In the Mouth of Madness being among my favorites of his).

Soundtrack-wise I tend to prefer the minimal production aesthetics of his earlier compositions, but his later stuff is always a good listen as well.

Was reminded of this prophetic song the other day. Amazing how modern the production sounds even 35 years later.

Very productive guy for sure.

His solo records Waving Not Drowning and Immunity are great.
