Television/Web shows you watch

There's a movie thread, why not a TV/Web one? Post your favourite TV / Web shows in this thread.

To get a bit of variety, try post something from your native country. If you're from the US, try post something great you've found from another country.

Pizza or Fat Pizza (2000 – 2007) is an Australian series by Paul Fenech shot primarily in suburban Sydney. Whacky and crude, it lampoons ethnic stereotypes and Australian culture.

Lots of it is on Youtube, follow the links if it takes your fancy.

Other TV shows I've been enjoying recently include:

[UK] Black Mirror https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mirror
[US] Fargo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fargo_(TV_series)

I've enjoyed all three different seasons of Fargo.

The 3rd season finale would have been better if the cop who had confronted
Nikki Swango and had the shootout had been Gloria Burgle's ( female cop )
boss who took over and had given her so much grief over her investigation.

I also watch cable TV shows like:

- Twin Peaks ( Showtime )
- American Gods ( Starz )
- The Walking Dead ( AMC )
- Fear the Walking Dead ( AMC )
- Better Call Saul ( AMC )
- Preacher ( AMC )

And others I'll add later.

I just finished watching Season 1 & 2 of "Stranger Things" on Netflix.
It's their funded show so that's the only place you're going to see it.
If you saw the movie "Super 8" directed by J.J. Abrams then you
get the basic concept involving kids but no space aliens. It has
to do with man-made paranormal taking place in the 1980s.
Highly recommended. Each season has only 8 episodes.

I'm now watching the excellent 6th and final season of Longmire on Netflix.

Longmire - Season 1 - Promo

Longmire is played by Robert Taylor, an Australian actor more
famously known for playing "Agent Jones" in the Matrix Movies:

It also features Katee Sackhoff as his Deputy, who is more famously
known as "Starbuck" in the Battlestar Galactica ( 2003–2009 ) remake:

The Punisher (Half Recommendation, Half Review)

I just finished watching the Punisher season 1. Given Marvel says they are pulling out of netflix it might be the only season we get of it. Have to say, fantastic show if you can handle some of the sillier superhero aspects that come with the turf.

I was expecting them to go the easy route and just have it be a mindless shootemup fest and was getting excited for that. Then when the show comes out it's a look into soldier's lives after war and the struggles they deal with, in a variety of different and some often fatalistic outcomes. The punisher himself, fresh from Daredevil season 2, is a psychological mess with plenty of hallucinations happening randomly of his family happening almost at random.

Every other character in the show is dealing with some sort of trauma, and are coping with it in different ways. As I said, some of these approaches lead to absolute disaster and death. PTSD is a recurring theme of the show, which I notice has it's own thread here now.

Then again, it's also filled with shootouts and super hero antics, just downplayed for a grittier, and bloodier experience. It has a good deal of violence, but I feel the violence is laser focused on this show. It doesn't just have shootouts for the sake of it, it saves them for when the plot definitely demands them. There are entire action scenes where the Punisher doesn't actually kill anyone.

Plus I got to laugh at how in another part of the galaxy a talking tree and a raccoon are having space adventures at the same time people are getting tortured, maimed, and brutally beaten to a pulp in New York. Really shows the range of marvel I guess.

TL;DR

While it might not be their best product, it's very standout. As in, if you don't like Marvel shows, you'll probably still enjoy Punisher. I say the same thing with the Daredevil series even though they are a little more superhero in season 2 especially. Punisher stands out from Marvel products as that one show that the crowd against super hero shows can enjoy still.

Oh yeah, watching Daredevil is optional too, I'd reccomend it though, it's pretty great. The cemetery scene with Punisher explaining his past to Daredevil is one of my favorite scenes in Marvel, simply because of how well acted it is.

Opinions may very, but that was mine I guess. Also boy did I really not need to do this whole review thing. Oh well, hope it might convince you guys to check it out. If you saw it, let me know what you think but keep spoilers in check for those who didn't see it.

Looks like you needed a STL;DR ( Still Too Long; Don't Read )

I haven't watched the new Punisher series but certainly was going to
give it a try due to it's star Jon Bernthal who is well known to a lot of
people for being in the first few seasons of "The Walking Dead" as the
main star Rick Grime's Deputy sheriff who impregnated his wife when
they all thought he was dead. Jon Bernthal was also in the World War II
movie "Fury" with Brad Pitt as one of the Sherman Tank crew. He also had
a big role in the Ben Affleck movie "The Accountant" that was very good too.

My favorite to date Punisher movie was with Thomas Jane in 2004:

I love that movie. I think this was better only because it got more time to flesh out the characters.
