I am looking for a 1440p gaming monitor

Any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.
I have been reading reviews and there are to many that are negative.
So I am stuck making this decision.

What are the requirements?

Size of monitor?
Money budget?
Do you want a basic 60 hz model or a faster one?

I personally think that anyone buying a gaming monitor today should be buying either a G-sync or Freesync model but if you do not care for that ignore what's written below this line.

For gaming I'd definitely look at buying either a G-sync or Freesync monitor but which depends on your choice of graphics card brand.

Freesync is AMD's name for when they are using the Adaptive sync standard found in displayport 1.2a on.

G-sync is Nvidia's version which uses a special module that Nvidia provide the monitor makers with.

G-sync monitors have a price premium but you do get a set performance level from it where as Freesync being an open standard relies on the monitor maker to determine how well they support it, which has resulted in loads of monitors providing a poor experience due to cheap components, AMD's answer is to release Freesync2 which comes with minimum spec requirements, It doesn't mean there isn't good Freesync monitors now it just means you need to do your homework before buying one.

Also, are you a competitive gamer or play just for fun?

"Gaming monitor" sounds like a faster one, but usually that means you must compromise with other specs. For example, a TN panel is faster than IPS but has less good colors and viewing angle. I'm not sure what to look for when it comes to monitor speeds, but I suspect speed is sometimes over-hyped unless you're a competitive gamer and willing to sacrifice everything else but speed.

That said I don't notice any delay when moving a Windows program window as fast as I can across my desktop (with max mouse sensitivity). Fast mouse movements in games seem smooth and sharp too (with in-game motion blur disabled, and average in-game mouse sensitivity). I haven't noticed any strangeness with explosions or flashes either. Despite all this my IPS monitor's pixel response time speed is pretty average, with at best 6ms from gray-to-gray. Maybe I'd notice a difference if I compared with a faster screen.

I guess that doesn't hurt, everything else being equal. Still I don't notice any tearing on my 60Hz monitor. I use V-sync when available, which of course locks the framerate at 60Hz, but (again) do you really need faster than that unless you're a competing gamer? I'd rather turn up the graphics quality until the GPU becomes the bottleneck at 60Hz (or even slower).

Am I on another monitor thread?

These type of things can easily be found with Internet searches.
While most individuals only buy a couple of models, except Nasha who
has the most experience here, a PC review site will look at many of them.

I'm not using G-sync but from my local forum the Asus Swift models stand out as liked.

***Asus
PG279Q ROG Swift 27" 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync 165Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red

Also look up the following monitors on your local forums & sale sites looking for reviews

Acer
Predator XB271HUAbmiprz 27" 2560x1440 TN G-Sync 165Hz Gaming Widescreen LED ZeroFrame Monitor

Acer
Predator XB271HU 27" 2560x1440 IPS G-Sync 165Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor

You'll find all the above monitors here:

This Dell monitor ticks all the right boxes, It has a lot of reviews on my local forum and a good rating.

They also do a TN version of the Asus Swift gaming monitor.

Food for thought
While IPS panels do handle colours better Light bleed is an issue, TN panels have better responsiveness too, The middle ground is a VA panel.

As you're spending a lot of money I imagine you want it too last you a long time, With that in mind you could consider including HDR in the spec as the industry is in the process of replacing a lot of the current high end monitors with HDR ones.

This one seems to be the stand out monitor on OCUK, It has 26 reviews which is a lot for the site and they're all positive so have a good read.

I bought a 27" Acer IPS monitor that is 1440P. It is just 60HZ and is not a free-sync or G-sync style. That is reflected in the price and it is a great monitor. I don't really do competitive gaming so its very nice for my old eyes.
