Dream Games Thread

This is a thread all about how your favorite dream game would go down.

My dream game is if someone took Jagged Alliance 2 and turned it into a Stalker game.

You'd create your own stalker and recruit a wide variety of stalkers with their own personalities, quirks, rivalries, bromances, romances, etc, into your own faction and attempt to take out the other factions of the zone while looking for new recruits and better gear. Mutants would be kind of like how the bugs and bloodcats played out in Jagged Alliance. Especially since the bugs played into the Fear of Insects trait you could pick from the start. Watching my mercs panic when a giant bug attacked them was hilarious.

Just think stalker as a tactics RPG but with a bazillion guns because dat 1.13 patch. God I love that game.

Suggestions? Ideas? Post your own below!

My idea would be an updated graphics version of Lucas Arts Outlaws.
Now I realize it had cartoon like graphics to begin with but I'd like to
see a modern version similar to the art used in the Canadian survival
game "The Long Dark" that I'm a big fan of. Unfortunately we have
not had any decent first-person-shooter Westerns. Outlaws was so
great you could even use all of the original music that still stands
today as one of the greatest video game music soundtracks ever.
I don't want to see a third person type like we got from Rockstar.

Have you ever played Mount & Blade? It has a western mod I've been playing to death lately. Set in 1866 with third person/first person combat. I highly reccomend using first person when shooting. It's a bit grindy but once your weapon skills are in the hundreds the gunplay becomes super slick. Thats not even hard to achieve, you'll have that by like level 5 maybe.

Rifles have less ammo capacity but have higher accuracy at longer range. Pistols play kind of the opposite. Muskets do higher damage but are one shot and require special ammunition. Bows are very fast attack but don't do as much damage. Melee weapons play exactly like standard Mount & Blade. There are also grenades and throwing weapons which are very fast attack.

The original Mount & Blade version covers the post civil war era around the Rio Grande. I like this version because it's smaller scale. You can actually take over buildings in towns and start your own gangs of lawmen or outlaws and fight over hotels and ranches across America and Mexico. Or you can join the Americans, Apaches, Comanches, or Mexicans for control over the cities and forts of the region. Or you can take both and become the uncontested ruler of the west.

Alternatively you can make a living hunting down outlaws, capturing prisoners and selling them to chaingangs, selling furs and other trade goods from town to town, hunting deer in the frontiers of the north, gambling in towns, robbing people at gunpoint, etc. There is also a ghost town that only triggers upon finding a graveyard in Mexico, that town was one hell of a surprise for me.

The Warband version is set in the civil war, in 1860 and covers a map that goes from the edge of the Dominion of Canada to the Southern edge of Yucatan. The factions are locked in three major wars, the Civil War, the Mexican-French war, and the Western States vs the Plains Indians. You lose access to gangs and small scale squabbles but the large scale battles are bigger and you have more territory to conquer. Of course you can still be an honest merchant or a mischevous outlaw if you want. Or you can wander around looking for unique gunslingers to recruit and form your own Magnificent Seven, to defend small towns from bandit gangs.

There are also "Dungeons" which allow you to raid cannibal tribes of the caribbean, fight gangs in suburbs of the united states and find outlaw treasure. You can even buy yourself a ship and fight pirates.

I think you might like it. It's clunky but it's one hell of a western game.

Looked it up. There's several versions ( all medieval ) that changed hands
and looks more of a strategy RPG than first person shooter type movement.
Couldn't find any information about a Western Mod. Any links or videos?

Here is a video that kind of shows first person. He's not very good at the game though so I don't think he's doing it justice.

I saw a couple of others but they were either squeakers, drowning it in ACDC music or were revealing things in their first video that are best saved for surprise factor.

Other things I forgot to mention is you can choose your ethnicity from American, Native American and Mexican which actually locks certain content, namely companion characters. Mexican companions will only travel with mexicans, native americans only travel with natives, americans only travel among americans. Sort of a racism system to further add to the atmosphere.

If I had the means to record myself playing I'd show that, I formed a street gang of confederate loyalists that ended up conquering Mexico. Now I'm trying to make some friends so I can begin Civil War Part 2: Electric Boogaloo. Afterwards I'll basically just have to fight the Indian Wars and I'll have conquered the american west for the confederates.

Never underestimate a good american cavalry brigade. Breaks the mexican lines every time.

Also the gunplay is inspired by spaghetti westerns more than realism. I don't think bullets drop at all. I managed to shoot a man from the otherside of the battlefield with a colt revolver and got a headshot. It was pretty nice. Also they travel fast enough that most of the time you don't have to lead your shot. You can really become a one man killing machine if you get good at this. At least until more than one guy shoots you at once and you get instant killed.

As for the strategy RPG part, you aren't far off. It's a full blown RPG with lots of skills and attributes. You have an inventory full of items to choose from and have to buy ammo and such (though you buy ammo for higher capacities, not to refill your stock. It always resets between battles.) As for the strategy angle you got to recruit men to travel with you. Either companions that level up alongside you or random shmucks to sick on the comanches when they come for you. Eventually if you grow ambitious you can start recruiting an army of guys and start taking hotels, towns, forts, villages, etc. Become your own warlord. Or you can join up with an existing faction and become part of the american cavalry, etc. Or you can go full dances with wolves and be the kemosabe who helps the native factions. Plenty of possibilities.

I'd highly reccomend the game. Mount & Blade (And Warband) have become my fall back game since it's got millions of total conversion mods that really keep it interesting even if the grindy gameplay has gotten stale. Plus Mount & Blade 2 is coming soon.

I'll leave you with an assortment of mods to give you an idea why I like this game so much.

your favorite dream game

- Stalker gameplay in the Crysis1 setting (Lingshan Island turned into an exclusion Zone with stalkers exploring the alien dwelling, complete with traders, factions, etc). Maybe the Crysis3 setting could work too, in the same way.

- Stalker gameplay in a SF setting similar to Mass Effect (this is a bit vague, admittedly).

But things that sound good on paper rarely work in practice, so I have doubts. Also I think new games should feature new ideas, rather than just rehash ideas from existing games.

Maiman~

I watched the video. There's just way too much top-down view travel
that breaks the immersion for me. Instead of being me, looking out
of the view of a person on the ground using my own eyes, I'm watching
someone else from a God-like view doing things. For the same reason
with the Grand Theft Auto Games. While I enjoy the driving, I hate 3rd
person games that make me feel like some asshole keeps blocking my
view and getting in my way as I am forced to look over his shoulders.

Yeah thats the world map, you travel large distances doing that. I understand if that's not your thing. Personally I love that game. I deep down wish someone talented would make a Stalker Mod for it. Then it'd be perfect.
