I still have rogue squadron 2 for my gamecube, I should play it some more. I just have a bad feeling Rogue Squadron 4 would come out shiny looking but lacking in substance like EA Battlefront.

Good call though, I'd love to play a new Rogue Squadron.

For a game released in 2001 its aged quite well

That would be my fear, especially since Disney shutdown LucasArts (bastards!). Battlefront is basically just a Star Wars skinned Battlefield game.. meh.

Battlefront is still my go to couch game experience. When I got three friends with me and we need something to do I pop in Battlefront 2 and they group up and try to stop me. They win sometimes.

It had great map variety, plenty of cool vehicles, unique classes that felt diverse from one another. Decent graphics for it's time. Not to mention the fun space battles.

Then EA Battlefront comes out and everyone is flying around with jetpacks and have their generic custom classes that every shooter has these days. They made the graphics all shiny but they only had a handful of maps and the game modes were very generic.

Where is the all Ewok hunt mode where you fight stormtroopers on Endor? Where's the Gungan hunting simulator mode. Where's the Wampa mode. Where's the jedi power duel?

Not to mention no Prequel era, no space battles, etc.

They took the fun out of it.

I always wanted to make a third-person open-world action RPG with the open sea and land where you can explore, solve puzzles and conquer dungeons sort of in the respects of old SNES JRPGs (think Uncharted Waters: New Horizons meets Zelda). I would want really good AI similar to STALKER and FEAR where there would just be normal npcs that live their life in this world doing mundane tasks as well as sophisticated npcs that can do just about everything the player can do, like take mutant hunting jobs, seek treasures, explore, etc.

Maybe one day if I'm a millionaire.

That reminded me of the third-person game Cold Fear:

EA, killing the fun as usual. They even had a 'bulls-eye womp rats in a T-16 Skyhopper' mini game in Rogue Squadron 2 on the tutorial level. It's the little things y'know...

For some reason that reminded me of an old joke game idea I used to tell my friends called W.A.L.K.E.R. which basically was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but about radioactive Jamaica. The name was even a joke because you'd spend more time swimming and sailing around the island looking for underwater secrets than you would walk.

Your idea sounds comfy though, I'd play it.

I liked how there was a first person mode complete with the inside of your ship with windows you could look out. Plus the targetting computer that popped out. That was pretty immersive, even if it was easier to play in third person.

Yeah the first person mode was very nice, but it was quite hard to play in. Maybe some sort of spotting/tracking system to track enemy fighters temporarily or something? Rogue Squadron 4 is a pipe dream nonetheless. With Factor 5 dead and Star Wars owned by Disney as much as we could hope for is a HD remaster of either the N64 Rogue Squadrons or GC Rogue Squadrons... and even those are pretty unlikely.

Edit: According to the wiki there were some developments in progress that were subsequently cancelled.

Yeah, the odds of another rogue squadron are slim and knowing EA it'll just be butchered. I expect DLC for all the cool stuff.

$5 for an A-Wing
$5 for a B-Wing
$5 for a V-Wing

Plus with the EU deader than corderoy, we're likely never going to get a spiritual succesor game about Wraith Squadron or one that has E-Wings or K-Wings or X-wing stealth fighters. Or Tie Uglies.

What??? and pass up the chance to introduce a more lucrative virtual currency? Some executive at EA just shuddered at the thought!
