Interesting. Looking forward to seeing how it comes along. Not too sure where it'll be in the end but time will tell. The concepts here are interesting but obviously not yet finished (I'm looking at you silly wolf animations)

The Long Dark

Finally created a Steam account so I could check out "The Long Dark".
A smart survival game without the tired, overused zombie story line.
It's very beautiful with it's unique non-photo realistic environment.
My first day I appeared near Mystery Lake but accidently stepped
into a fire and when I left the Game and came back I somehow
ended up outside on top of the fire where I died like Wolf in
the Army Warehouses. Strange since normal saves take
place inside buildings. My second game ( and current
one, I've lasted about 5 days so far ) started near
the Carter Hydro Dam where I left the level
and moved on to the Coastal Highway.

I'm finding plenty of supplies where I have grouped them together:

I didn't see this from below so I need to be more observant. This
location did not involve a save going inside but was still a nice view:

It's neat to go off in a direction in the middle of nowhere and come across
a frozen corpse beyond any roads, buildings or other signs of civilization:

You really have to get off the main road to find the unexpected. This
body was discovered way beneath a bridge road going over a waterfall:

I'm playing on the easiest setting where animals don't attack me
which is good considering I haven't found a gun yet and the Player
is not able to extend the other things I found like a knife, ax or crowbar.

More to come...

The Abandoned Mine was a trip to explore. I kept expecting a cave in
and being killed and having to start over. Instead to my surprise it led
me to the third level in the Game called Pleasant Valley. It was pitch
black and I was walking around with a flare looking for shelter past
sundown. Luckily I came across a road and soon a small shack:

I just died by freezing to death in a cave during a snowstorm. I had
plenty of food, water, good warm clothes but lacked the ability to make
a fire. I had made two so that exhausted my supplies. I made it to the
9th day and even had found 3 rifles in the same day but my luck finally
ran out to be in a corner of the map without suitable shelter. While I
do enjoy the Game, it is a big let down to lose everything that I had
worked so hard to gather about and stash and then die like I did:

Started a 3rd game on the medium setting ( animals can attack ) on the
easy and plenty of supplies Coastal Highway level. Died less than 2 days
later when I stepped out the front door of a house and a wolf attacked me.

Next for my 4th game I decided to start in the more difficult Pleasant
Valley. Made the PV Farmhouse the center of operations and I am very
careful to use the road system when I venture out in any direction. That
way if a snowstorm hits, I can retreat to the road. I may not be able to
see very far in front of me but since I know the roads they lead me
back to safety. I'm now coming to the end of my 9th day there.

Day 40 of my 4th Game. I finally figured out you can forage for wood,
repair your clothes, melt snow and boil water. These are all things that
mean you are not limited to only finding stuff on the ground or in houses.
I've made a Bearskin bedroll, Wolfskin coat, Rabbit mittens and Deerskin
Boots. The Pleasant Valley Farmstead has been the center of all of my
operations. I've slept there 36 nights, with 2 times in a house at the
Rural Crossroads and 1 time in a Prepper's Bunker I found in the
far south by the river. Every fire has been inside on a stove.
I have over 300 pounds of meat and plenty of supplies.
The only thing that may make me leave the level is
when I get low on ammo. That would be a trip
through the Mine to Coastal Highway level.

Well...this might not be the place for that. No one else here seems to
be playing this now and no sense talking about something in detail that
others would not know anything I'm saying. My Facebook page is getting
some daily updates and screenshots so go there to get more on all of this.

Don't forget to search the glove compartment of the vehicles!

Yes, and be sure to go outside and open the basement doors of the
Pleasant Valley Farmstead. There's a workbench under the house.
