Be sure to harvest any dead animals completely. This means remove all
meat, skin and guts. If you leave a single item behind, the dead animal
may remain there for several days. All items must be harvested for you
to have it disappear the quickest. I've had Bears scramble up on rocks
that I didn't think they could reach me after shooting them with my gun
or bow & arrow. What sucks is sometimes they will tear up clothing. I
lost a fleece cowl that was reduced to 0% and beyond repair and worst,
another time my rifle was knocked from my hands and where it flew to
was beyond recovery in the Game ( dropped out of level ) and I never
saw it again. I'm a lot more careful after those incidents with Bears.

Good point - off to sharpen my knife.

I usually harvest an animal using my bare hands which you are allowed
to do if it's a fresh kill. One that is found out in the open and partially
frozen does require a knife, hatchet or hacksaw. I choose my bare
hands to cut down on wear and tear on instruments that must be
sharpened later and use up limited whetstones to restore them.
The only downside is, what takes an hour or less by knife may
take 2 to 3 hours by hand. You get locked into the act itself
and may come out of it in a blizzard with your clothes now
wet or frozen. Not a big deal if you know where to go
for the nearest shelter even if blinded by weather.
Adds a little more fun to the survival element.

Never tried a hand job; I'll have to take into consideration that hardware don't grow and will eventually run out.

I have found so much on this run, at least 6 rifles, I have 35 rounds left and just made another 40 arrowheads.

Tried beach-combing, load of bollocks in my view and not worth the risk unless your desperate on loper.

Going back to Coastal for a bit of R&R and then really looking forward to climbimg T.M.

I think I fired 2 rounds in 485 days. The first one was a direct hit that
killed a Bear in one shot. The second one was when I hit a Bear, it ran
up on the rocks I was on and swatted my gun away never to be seen
again. After that I decided I would exclusively use the bow and arrow.

Here's my video on how to recover items at Desolation Point. I've gotten
arrows, bullets, homemade knives, meds and many other items of use:

What's going on in your Game? Did you make the awesome climb
to the top of Timberwolf Mountain? I spent over 100 days there in
the whole level. I loved finding all the plane wreckage but no nose.

Yes and it was awesome, I've progressed onto interloper and taken a break from my 90+ day game [with periodic saves and using maps].

It's getting a bit tedious for me in P.V. - although I have decent clothing the cold make travel boring as the only way to walk/run more than 500 yds is to find shelter or build a fire; cabin fever's a pain as well.

I'm looking forward to story mode and hope they've tweaked it a little to make it more interesting and easier to appreciate the wonderful surroundings.

In the mean time I've started L.A. D.Cut

The things I focused on were the various achievements and the new
"Badges" for doing certain things in a certain amount of time. I don't
think I was able to get greater than 96% explored but that may be the
limit as I've read other people complain about peaking at 94%-96% too.

So did you study the wreckage of the plane and postulate any theories
about what brought it down? Did it hit the peak and break apart or did
it have a mid-air incident that brought the pieces down as we see it?
Where do you think the front of the plane is? In another level even?

Did you discover anything new from repeated play like I did discovering
the ability to recover rare items washed on shore? Any questions too?

Did you operate the Forge at both Forlorn Muskeg AND aboard the Riken?
Did you make anything besides arrowheads? I just didn't see the point
of making any knives until the others were gone and I had no choice.
Did you find all the rarest pieces clothing that weren't animals skins?
Did you move around several of the ropes on Timberwolf mountain
to create a shorter path to the top for the return journeys? I think
it took me 4 or 5 visits to the top to finally empty it of all the loot.

I did both forges for arrowheads and a knife; on interloper I hadn't got to T.M. but on stalker I did. As I said earlier the cold mechanics on interloper seemed unreasonable and made moving around tedious.
The new update destroys saves so I've taken a break until they've sorted teething problems but I'm already looking forward to returning.
