BORDERLANDS 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpoRJD0gXRg

Good to know the focus is on getting this out the door, Other than Stalker there's not many franchises I've played all the games from. Borderlands, Fallout and Far cry are the only others.

I hope that's right, I never did play the original but I'm using Playstation Now on the PC so I might give it a go once I finish playing The Last of Us.

So many 3rd person games. Are these Console Games? I hadn't really
thought about it but the 3rd person platform is perfect for playing with a
Controller compared to 1st person Games with mouse/keyboards on a PC.

Elex is Console/PC, whilst Overgrowth is PC-exclusive

Overgrowth is the spiritual successor to an old indie-game, titled "Lugaru" (which I completed yesterday, as it came remade within the Overgrowth engine - I have been playing it on and off in its original inception over the years, but had never completed it, until last night)

Its main focus is accessibility, but story-wise and its world (i.e. characters, setting, etc.) reminds me of Usagi Yojimbo - a comic (and subsequently Commodore 64 game), from back in the 80's, which I have always had a very deep fascination with... as one of two comics, I've ever had any interest in (the other one being Donald Duck, so.. I'm not really a comic-book fan )

I love climbing stuff in real life, as well as in games - and exploring nooks and crannies to see if "can I reach that point", as such I love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games most of all in terms of First Person games, but then there are games, such as Overgrowth, where you need to have third-person perspective, in order to pull of various tricks, such as jumping off of walls and hanging onto ledges, whilst at the same time back-flipping and throwing knives... perhaps a bit too literal, but the point being to be able of pulling off more moves at one time, than would be comfortable in First Person, so to speak (i.e. changing direction mid-air, to jump from wall to wall, etc.)

It is fully playable with a controller AFAIK, but I prefer playing KB/M for Overgrowth; but I am going to give it a try with my new STEAM-controller on the 50" as well, to see how both of them fare

Elex is made by Piranha Bytes, the same people who brought us the cult-classic Gothic and Risen series - clear forerunners in the 'European cRPG' -market, (Piranha Bytes being a German developer) and whilst the Gothic series (1 and 2, in particular) are more focused on a deep roleplaying-xperience, with branching stories and deep choices; the Risen series streamlined the process and is basically 'Gothic for the console-generation) (IMO)

Gothic 2 being widely considered one of the greatest cRPG's in history (and I would agree, if ever I could stop myself from replaying Gothic 1), whilst Gothic 1 is a bit more obscure, mainly due to its age (2001?) and obtuse control-scheme (keyboard only)

the keyboard-only aspect may seem odd, since all Gothic and Risen games are strictly third-person (you can change to First Person view, only to look around and get a better perspective of where you are), but having played Gothic 1 for about 12 years now, I've grown so accustomed to the keyboard-layout and camera-quirks, etc. that I cannot possibly play it any other way

and although the Risen games are available for consoles as well, with proper control-schemes for respective controllers - it just doesn't feel right

these games (Gothic and Risen -series) were all created with PC in mind and mouse and keyboard, by developers who's been perfecting the third-person control-scheme on PC, with at least six games, since the early 2000's; now I haven't tried Elex and unfortunately my PC won't be able to run it satisfactory, so I will have to settle with PS4 version, for now

but if Piranha Bytes earlier games are anything to go by, in terms of controls for PC, then I am positive that Elex will control perfectly fine for those with Keyboard and Mouse

also, if it has even an ounce of the RPG-aspects of the Gothic and/or Risen games, then it's bound to be worth the time and money

of course, keeping in mind that the Risen series got more and more 'action-y', I assume that (also looking at the trailers) Elex will be more action-focused, as well - which may suit the console-crowd better; but it if has anywhere near all the possibilities of exploration that the Gothic and Risen series has... there is a reason that I have been playing Gothic 1 for so long... I am still finding new ways to 'break' that game, much like you (T.S.) 'break' S.T.A.L.K.E.R., by exploration.

Those are some well written game reviews. I was thinking since you have a
really knowledgeable background with both PC Games & Consoles, you should
create a new post and title it "Lord Santa's PC & Console Game Reviews" and
share your wealth of knowledge. Give the Game title, year it came out and
format, include a video of game play and tell us about it exactly like you
just did. Your first two games are already written to be reposted. I
would enjoy the hell out of learning from you. Like this:

* * * * *

I know this is a lot to ask of you but you really need a dedicated thread
just by you to keep track of all of these since they are scattered over time
in various posts in the past. I also realize it's hard to be inspired in our Forum
format where just a few of us toil away making posts with little to no feedback,
but it is what it is. There are always more lurkers/readers than participants.
I never let that bother me. I hope you like this idea.
