The movies you're watching now

I recently saw the Spanish movie ( with English subtitles ) that is called:
"1898, Our Last Men in the Philippines" ( 1898, Los Ultimos de Filipinas )
which was based on a true event that took place being a military incident.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Baler

This is a decent movie worthy of 3 or 4 stars, however I'm going to raise
it to a 4 or even a 5 for the following reasons: One, the subject matter.
Movies about the Spanish-American War are almost non-existent. While
it was more about the Spanish against local Filipinos, the time frame is
relevant for events that started before the war and after the war. Two,
being a foreign movie and not the typical Hollywood Americanized version
of events is another big plus. Three, Military movies of subject matter that
is other than World War 1 or 2, Vietnam or the more recent Iraq/Gulf Wars
and/or Afghanistan are very rare. If you like history and military warfare
based on actual events then I recommend this one as a very rare gem.

The movies you're watching now

I watched "Hidden Figures" last night about Black women working for
NASA in the early 1960s. It was a decent movie but I find it hard to
believe some of the events were not over-exaggerated for dramatic
effect. For example, NASA buying million dollars of Computers from
IBM and no one from IBM knowing how to set them up or operate them
and no one from NASA being prepared to receive them. A Black woman
stealing a small, ordinary book from the public library about Computer
language and then sneaking into the unguarded room with millions of
dollars of Computer equipment and then magically getting them running
was somewhat ridiculous. If it was that easy then why didn't anyone get
the same book and do the same? So, with that in mind, if you're willing
to be entertained and like to feel good about diversity, this movie is for
you. I give it 3 Stars out of 5 for good actresses and a decent story.

Found out afterward most of the events were heavily fictionalized:

The movies you're ( not ) watching now

Not really sure if this counts as a valid review of a Movie if I only
watched about 15 to 20 minutes or so and stopped because it was
so bad. The acting and dialogue was so terrible that I could not keep
watching and resorted to reading about the rest of the movie looking at
Wikipedia. After reading what was to come, I had no incentive to keep
hoping it would get any better or to keep trying so this will serve as
my warning to not waste your time. So let's say 0 stars out of 5.

Preservation (2014 film)

Just a lame and crappy survival horror movie full of stupid people
doing stupid things, that should be avoided unless you like movies
about stupid people doing stupid things. By the end of it I wish that
everyone had died which would have been a better ending. 1 star of 5.

The movies you're watching now

Finally...I saw a good movie. It was a recommendation from a friend
that when I first heard about the movie I had no interest. My friend
watched it because it had an actor that was in it from the TV show
The Walking Dead and she likes to see movies that they are in too.

So without giving too much away, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5 and
a recommendation that what looked ordinary turned out not to be.

I've seen #1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and highly recommend them.
I've actually seen a few more on the list that were okay but not great.

The Founder (2016) is the true story of the birth of the McDonald's
franchise and how it grew from one location into a world wide business.
I enjoyed the movie and while not really a typical action or drama type of
story, it was more like a living documentary of events. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Pirates of Silicon Valley ( 1999 ) is a movie that I first saw when it
came out and one that I just finished watching again the other night.
I think I was more impressed with it 18 years ago but it really has to
be viewed in the timeframe it came out to appreciate it the best. It's
the story of how both Bill Gates ( Microsoft ) and Steve Jobs ( Apple )
got their start and how they both knew each other and interacting with
each other at various stages in the early PC technology birth. It shows
how basically Steve Jobs & Apple stole/copied technology from Xerox
and then had it done to them by Bill Gates & Microsoft. The movie
coming out in 1999 of course does not cover how after getting fired
and then re-hired by Apple, Steve Jobs made a huge comeback for
them with the iMac, iPad, iPhone and other products. There are a
couple of more recent biography movies about Steve Jobs you should
watch to get the more current story. However this is the best one I've
seen that also includes Bill Gate's story too. I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
